CHAPEAU

The process and specimen book shows the development and current status of Chapeau typeface, developed from the project title Piles of Playgrounds¹. The Chapeau began at two very different starting points, the first from the 'What do you see?' booklet and the second inspired by a puzzle piece found at the St Philips Recycling Centre in Bristol. Looking at both approaches, their processes have been documented looking at all the influences and their affect on the aesthetic and characteristics of the Chapeau typeface.

Chapeau forms a typographic representation of the piles of playgrounds concept, acting as a vehicle to portray a sense of play combined with the being a practical typeface. Chapeau is still in the construction stages and therefore the specimen is a record of its current status.
